Logistics is often described as an automated service that will take you or your goods from one point to another. That is correct. However, it is not as simple as we think it is. Many, generally, perceive logistics as a problem rather than a solution. When we consent or resign ourselves to such perception, the problems in logistics will never come to an end.
So, what are the common problems in logistics?
- Delay, time consuming
- Costly
- Unreliable, Insecure, Unsafe
- Unavailable
The solution to all of these problems is simply, planning ahead. In other words, logistics should be taken into account as soon as an organization begins to consider to offer a product in the market. Ideally, it is adapted when a business is evaluating its marketing mix (4 or 7 or 8 Ps or 4 Cs). Well, why shouldn’t an organization deem logistics as a vital element of its business when, it can take up to 50% of your product price or can even jeopardize a good business deal? Is it because it is always observed as merely a supporting component of a business?
The video illustrates the extent of measures taken by some businesses to fulfill their logistics needs.
The people in the video they have surely considered the methods used to be justifiable to their business and in the area they operate in. It could be because of cost or time or availability of logistics but they definitely failed to gauge and violated the reliability or security or safety measures. Imagine the losses you need to bear should the thinkable happens. It is definitely no fun.
As a conclusion, logistics is one of the primary ‘ingredients’ to your business ‘cake’ that will ascertain whether you venture will be successful or not. I, therefore, beyond all doubts, suggest changing your perception on logistics should you still feel that it is a hindrance to your business organization.
